Global Positioning Systems (GPS) utilise 24 satellites that circle the earth at precise orbit and transmit information to the earth. These signals are received by GPS systems and can provide the user with location and navigational guidance.
The Garmin 205 is a lightweight, compact, wrist mounted GPS unit that was originally developed for runners and cyclists but can easily be used on horseback.
The 205 uses a rechargeable battery and provides the user with a multitude of information from its large l.c.d. display including Timer (stopwatch), Speed both average and actual (in mph or kph) and distance.
A host of other parameters can also be displayed using other customised screens, these include Lap Time, Total Distance, Elevation, Time of Day etc.
By scrolling through the on screen menu the user can access information and features on the following: Ride/Route History by day or week or the total The Training Assistant which allows the user to set auto pauses, auto laps, interval training, Speed and Time alerts or to activate the Virtual Partner which provides a graphic “running partner” to pace yourself and your horse against.
